Notre Dame d'Afrique is a Catholic basilica located in Algiers, Algeria. It was built between 1858 and 1872 on a hilltop overlooking the city and the Bay of Algiers. The basilica was designed by Jean-Eugène Fromageau and is neo-Byzantine in style.
Notre Dame d'Afrique serves as a symbol of peaceful coexistence and dialogue between different cultures and religions. Inside the basilica, there are several chapels dedicated to different patron saints, including Saint Augustine, Saint Monica, and Our Lady of Algeria.
The basilica is also known for its bell tower, which soars to a height of 46 meters and is topped by a statue of the Virgin Mary. Visitors can climb up to the top of the tower for breathtaking views of the city and the Mediterranean Sea.
Notre Dame d'Afrique is considered one of the most important religious landmarks in Algeria and attracts thousands of visitors every year. It was declared a national monument in 1982.
